What is Oral Surgery?

The diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the mouth, face, jaws and teeth would fall under the classification of oral surgery.

While we will always use the least invasive treatment possible to resolve any dental issue, in some cases, less invasive treatment options are simply not enough, and oral surgery is needed.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are tiny titanium screws that function like natural tooth roots. Our dentists place dental implants as part of the process to help restore your smile by replacing a missing tooth. Together with a tooth replacement such as a dental bridge or crown, a dental implant looks and feels much like a natural tooth.

Tooth Extractions

While we always strive to save a natural tooth, in some cases this will be impossible. If a tooth is too severely damaged as a result of decay, gum disease or injury, your dentist may need to remove it to avoid further oral health complications.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

This final set of molars erupts in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If your wisdom teeth cause problems with your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help protect your oral health and to help avoid dental issues in the future.

Frenectomy

Though this procedure is mainly performed on babies or children, the frenectomy can be completed on anyone whose frenum (a small piece of tissue connecting your cheeks, lips or tongue to your gum area) is restricting function. The condition is typically referred to as tongue-tied, cheek-tied or lip-tied.

Bone Grafting

During a bone graft, your dentist will add bone tissue to your jaw bone, to help strengthen it to support a dental implant. A sinus lift is a type of bone graft in which bone material is added to the upper back jaw to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area, so a dental implant can be placed.
